2 PhD studentships offered by University College Falmouth

Title:Crafting participatory design: the role and value of craft processes in the development of new participatory design methods

Autonomatic, the 3D Digital Production Research Group at UCF is offering a PhD studentship opportunity to develop and test new participatory design methods of potential value in business and social contexts based on approaches and characteristics associated with craft practice.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a post graduate qualification, or equivalent research skills, and practical making experience. You must be able to demonstrate your potential to intelligently and empathetically apply this making experience to working with others.

Dr Justin Marshall will act as the Director of Studies for this project. Professor David Frohlich director of the 'Digital World Research Centre' based at the University of Surrey will act as external supervisor.


Title: 21st century standard ware (the cultural heritage of Leach and the creative and economic benefits of digital technologies)

A research opportunity to be supported through a partnership between Leach Pottery, St Ives and Autonomatic
The Leach Pottery and Autonomatic, the 3D Digital Production Research Group at UCF are offering a unique PhD studentship opportunity to research and prototype innovative ceramic products that draw upon the cultural heritage of Leach and the creative and economic benefits of digital technologies.

We are looking for a highly motivated practitioner with post graduate or equivalent research skills in either digital design technologies and/or ceramic production to pursue this exciting opportunity to explore and develop Leach standards in 21st century Design contexts.

Dr Katie Bunnell, Autonomatic Research Group leader will act as Director of Studies for this project with Jack Doherty, Creative Director of Leach Pottery as advisor.
